Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma
Associate Professor (H.O.D), in Dept. of Sculpture, College Of Art, Chandigarh
He is an Indian sculptor, he has been brought up in Delhi where he did his BA in arts from Meerut University, then he further moved to study art in Jamia Millia Islamia where he did B.A (hons.) in Art and Art education, further still fulfilling his strive to study further, he did his B.F.A and M.F.A (Sculpture) from College of Art, Delhi. After giving back to the academics as an Assistant professor for more than 10 years, he went back to sharpen and broaden his spectrum knowledge by attaining his Ph.D from Rajasthan University, Jaipur. He today, is an Associate professor for 21 Years, and serving to shape the future of young aspiring artists. He aims to open up the creative, and imaginative doors of the students, yet making them socially sound, and responsible Artists.
He has worked immensely focusing on the title or subject “Key to the Better World”. Most of his sculpture’s concept revolves around the different facets of human, or the spiritual energies, the mother earth, or even social topics like global warming. He says “Sculpture is the true essence of Natures Nectar”, and his focused works reflects his ideology to the fullest. The foundation of his Art work’s approach was directly conveying something he derived not only from the common aspects of our world but deeply enhanced it with the feelings and emotions attached to it.
He has also contributed in the commercial sculptural spectrum, Under whom’s guidance, many life size murals, sculptures have been created, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh’s sculpture in Amritsar is one such example. His expertise and guidance in the Chandigarh Airport Sculptural murals is also highly appreciated and applauded.
He has been awarded several awards, scholarships, and participated in many prestigious workshops, seminars and exhibition, few of which are 1989 B.C. Sanyal Award M.F. Hussain Award. 1st Prize in Annual Art Exhibition of College of Art 1987, 88, 90, 91 & Sahitya Kala Parishad Award. 1989 Sahitya Kala Parishad Award (Yuva). 2001 AIFACS Chandigarh State Award. Scholarship 1985, 87 College of Art Annual Scholarship 1989 90 National Scholarship 1991, 92 AIFACS Scholarship.1993, 1994 Ravi Jain Memorial by (Dhoomimal Art Gallery). He has also participated in many National Sculptural Camps in Delhi, Chandigarh, Bhuvneshwar, Udaipur, Etc. He pertains Group shows in different cities of India & abroad, Art Camps & Art Workshops with various art societies and Art Organisations held at various places in India. & One Man Shows in 1992 Triveni Kala Sangam (Sculpture Court) And in 1992 Greenwood Art Gallery.
He in his continued tenure, in College of Art, Chandigarh, has proved to be a very Strong, and Responsible Pillar. He has been focusing on the upliftment of the Artistic, Aesthetical & sculptural values in the field of education as Associate Professor (H.O.D), in Dept. of Sculpture, College Of Art, Chandigarh from the past 21 years. He has also taken additional responsibilities, to name a few as the Principal, DDO, and HOD in the College, and proven to be an asset, in many projects of the college where it represents the State, and the Country.
